DAY 1

16:00 Welcoming participants. Introduction to naturalist painting and the workshop’s objectives. Exhibition of the artist’s work and career. Guidance and tips on sketching birds from life.

17:00 Outing for life drawing:

Group 1: common kingfisher and herons from a hide.
Group 2: waterbirds at El Taray Lagoon.

20:30 End of the activity.

3 October

DAY 2

6:30 Breakfast.

7:00 Drawing birds from a hide:

Group 1: The bearded reedling and waterfowl.
Group 2: Birds of prey hide (spanish imperial eagle, western marsh harrier, northern goshawk, etc.).

10:30 End of the hide session.

11:00-13:30 Drawing session at the Casa de Labor (time to analyse the results of the ‘hide’ session, finish sketches, correct mistakes, use the notes to create an illustration, etc.).

14:00 Meals (not included in the workshop fee).

17:00 Outing for life drawing:

DAY 3

6:30 Breakfast.

About the artist

Francisco studied Biological Sciences and began working with the Doñana Biological Station, where he combined his scientific training with his early work as an illustrator. Having worked as a biologist on conservation projects, he eventually decided to devote himself fully to naturalist illustration and painting, taking an interest in capturing the movement, colour and constant transformation of birds, as well as the emotion evoked by observing them in the wild.

Material

Each participant should bring their own equipment.

Binoculars and/or a telescope, pencil, watercolours, paintbrushes, good-quality watercolour paper, sketchbook.
