El Taray Lagoon is a private estate covering an area of approximately 1,100 hectares, located in the south-east of the province of Toledo, within the municipality of Quero. The wetland is mainly fed by the River Riánsares, whose flow is highly seasonal, with inflows occurring at varying times from year to year but mainly between December–January and June–July. As a result of this seasonality, the water level in the lagoon rises throughout the spring until it reaches its maximum in early summer, when it begins to fall. During this process, the annual low is reached in the autumn months.
