"We booked a short expedition with Wild Spain Travel to try to see brown bears in the Somiedo Natural Park. Over two days we saw a total of 6 bears, 4 adults and 2 cubs, with multiple sightings of some of the bears. Our guide Luis Frechilla was very knowledgeable and kept us both informed and entertained. He has the knowledge of the area that only comes from being a local, so always able to get me to the right place. Bernardo really knows and understands the local birdlife - recognising target species from their calls. The set-ups for the smaller birds were always carefully and thoughtfully prepared to give maximum visibility of the bird without a lot of visible bird food. "A magnificent estate with a wide variety of observation posts. I visited three different ones, and getting to some of them is quite an adventure, which makes the visit all the more authentic and enjoyable. All thanks to Francisco, a brilliant guide and an even better person. The three observatories I stayed in had one-way mirrors and were comfortable, especially the one for the cranes, which is huge and has electricity, a bathroom, a microwave and a small heater – which is very welcome at this time of year. I’ll definitely be back.”

‘A great place to enjoy photographing birds of prey. I spent over three hours straight at the Vega Mazon hide. The hides are brand new; the mirrored glass lets in plenty of light and has virtually no colour cast. Francisco, the guide, was very friendly and professional. I’ll be back.’
