Boat trip
The trip is organised to coincide with a key period of the post-breeding migration off the Rías Baixas, with the aim of observing both a good number of species of interest (Wilson's storm petrel, Sabine’s gull, sooty shearwater, great shearwater, balearic shearwater, long-tailed jaeger, parasitic jaeger, pomarine jaeger, ...), as well as large numbers of birds, with the added possibility of spotting dolphins and cetaceans. The route crosses the Arousa estuary and heads out to the open sea beyond the Sálvora archipelago, with the aim of intercepting the main migratory flow of pelagic birds. On this leg of the journey, we will also pass in front of the islets where a brown booby has been sighted for several months – a species native to the South Atlantic with very few recorded sightings in the Northern Hemisphere.

This trip is also an opportunity to discover the Rías Baixas beyond its birdlife. During the journey, we will explore the close relationship between the landscape, the sea and the local communities: we will sail amongst mussel rafts, learn about traditional farming and fishing methods, and gain an insight into the seafaring trades that form part of this region’s identity.
We will discuss the sustainable use of marine resources, shellfish gathering and how these activities have shaped the landscape and culture of the estuaries.
